Let’s grow together…
This year, starting September 11th, St. Mary’s is undertaking a unique and powerful experience together: we’re going to read the Bible together as a whole community. Everyone from little ones to elders will read The Story, the Bible written in chapter format. Here’s what The Story is all about:
“God has gone to great lengths to rescue lost and hurting people and to empower them for a deeper, stronger, more profound life. That is what The Story is all about: the story of the Bible, God’s great love affair with humanity. Condensed into 31 accessible chapters—and using the clear, accessible text of the NIV—this rendering of the Bible allows its stories, poems, and teachings to come together in a single, compelling read. The New International Version (NIV) translation of the Bible is the world’s most popular modern-English Bible—easy to understand, yet rich with the detail found in the original languages.”
My vision for this experience is that we will grow together:
- We will know God’s story.
- See the big picture of the Story.
- Go deep and pursue the big questions.
- Grow in confidence about what scripture means as a whole.
- Experience the Holy Spirit together in our small groups.
- Be unified as a church.
- Discover your place in the Story and God’s call in your life.
Rome wasn’t built in a day and nothing deep happens quick and easy. This will be a year long commitment, in three mini-series: September 11 – December 4, January 20 – March 27, April 21 – June 21. In small groups and on google chat we’ll walk and talk our way through the Bible, hard copy or e-book, we’ll do it together. Our launch is September 11th. Books will be available for purchase on that day, and you can download the Story at any time.
We want to reach everyone at St. Mary’s and draw new hearts to God. We want you to be part of this glorious adventure. If you are current a member of St. Mary’s you will receive an invitation from your group leader. If you are new to St. Mary’s and would like to try out a group the Open Group will meet on Saturdays at 11:00 at St. Mary’s starting September 17th.
To join us in our 40 Days of Prayer to prepare our parish for this experience, download our App (see link on this page) and you will receive daily prayer notices via text. Careful, prayerful preparation is like fertilizer in a garden, it ensures greater growth, so join in!
Be blessed dear ones and prepare yourselves for even greater blessings!
ABOUT SAINT MARY’S
Real People, Real Issues and Real Faith
Welcome to St. Mary’s! There are lots of ways to get connected at St. Mary’s, with fellow seekers and pilgrims on the spiritual journey. Looking for God’s love in Jesus and the Holy Spirit? We know where to look! We’re whooping it up here most days of the week and three times on Sunday. I hope exploring our programs and celebrations on this web site brings you hope and joy.
We’re Episcopalians, protestant and catholic and free. We believe Jesus died to take away your sins, not your mind. Questioning and seeking is at the heart of who we are. We aren’t afraid of questions and neither is God. We make lots of room for the big questions of life and the little ones too. We have a great team of lay and ordained ministers ready and willing to walk, talk, study and pray with you. We’re committed to meeting you where you are and going forward together. There’s no test to pass before you get in the door. You know how happy you are to see people you love that you haven’t seen for a long time? It’s simple, God loves you, and God is happy whenever one who felt lost or one who was away comes home. Lightening will not strike. Remember, the light is on for you.
What about kids? We have lots of them, big ones, small ones and parents too. We have an open, kid-friendly Family Service, and our church school is filled with loving teachers and a spirit of adventure rooted in J.O.Y. (seek Jesus, he will bring you to Others to love and serve with, and You will find all you need and more than you can imagine!)
Teen-agers? Bring ‘em on! We have a great team of adults who know how to play, mentor and challenge our youth in the Journey to Adulthood program. There’s honest talk about who they are as spiritual, sexual, social selves and where God is in all of that. This is not your mama’s confirmation class. We’re busy building spiritual strength to meet the challenges of today in Bible Study, a relationship with God, Spiritual empowerment and in bringing that power to others in service.
If you want more out of your life we can help you find it. If you come here you will grow.
If we can be of any help at any time, please don’t hesitate to phone or e-mail us. Be blessed, and be a blessing!
The Rev. Claire Woodley, Rector
